Believe it or not, this is just half of this beautiful family. That's right- Brandon and Amber got hitched in April of this year and joined together their families of four to make 8. ( Well, 10 if you count them! ) I had the pleasure of hanging out ( and I say "hanging out" because it certainly didn't feel like I was working ) and getting to know half of this amazing family- I'm hoping to photograph everyone together VERY soon..

Just a side note, Amber is a midwife here in New Braunfels, and I highly recommend her. Bowen's momma warned me about his little linebacker stare- and boy was she right!! ( as seen in the pictures ) How cute is that?

It wasn't all serious though, Bowen did crack a few smiles for me- especially when Daddy was showing the longhorns sign! First birthday pictures are always a joy to photograph, I love watching the little ones get messy with their smash cakes- and Bowen loved it!!

Thank you guys so much for making the drive from Austin to New Braunfels to get Bowen's 1 year portraits done. I hope he has a wonderful birthday party!

Jamie and Joey are pregnant. 32 weeks to be exact. I can't wait to see what their little guy ( Maddux ) is going to be like, if he's anything like his parents I know I will just adore him.
Jamie and I go way back, we worked together at a portrait studio, she second shoots weddings for me all over Texas and she owns her own photography company in Austin, Texas. ( Cherry Bones Photography - you should really check them out - NOW! ) She did one of my maternity sessions and naturally I had to return the favor.
Shooting another photographer - always makes me a little nervous... you want to make sure you get everything "just right"( like in every photography session- but just a little bit MORE ) - For this shoot we walked the Comal County fair grounds for an hour or two. The fair in New Braunfels was a perfect backdrop for them! I hope I was able to come up with something close to what her vision was for this session.

What to wear guide | San Antonio Family Photography

Some tips:
* color coordinate without matching one another too much
* find a color or two and use different shades on everyone
* coordinate colors without everyone wearing pants (e.g. girls in dresses)
* try not to overdo the colors you choose, trying have some people in the picture just have a slight color pop (e.g. red shirt popping out of a blazer or bring out your color in just accessories)

* don’t be afraid to use patterns
* find one or two fun patterns and use that as your base
* if one or two people in the picture are in patterns, the rest should be in coordinating solids to match

* go simple and traditional but add something new
* do traditional colors in a trendy fashion
* do white or black with fun accessories or props
* go simple clothing but use a bright and fun location
* use bright colors
* get fun shoes (colorful shoes, impractical shoes, boots)
* accessories (hats, scarfs, hair pieces, belts, glasses)
* layer
* go vintage ( find fun stuff at local San Antonio thrift stores )
* after all this just remember that pictures are meant to capture you and your family, so be you!
* if you are a casual family, go casual. if you love style, go stylish!
* bring props that capture you, your family, or your kids. (cute bike, guitars, wagons, fun skirts for girls)

How does a mini session differ from a full session?

Our regular photo sessions are sixty to ninety minutes in length and at the location of your choice. Mini sessions are conducted at a specific location and are twenty minutes in length.

May I book multiple mini sessions together?
You may book more than one session in a row. In fact, it is recommended that you book multiple sessions if you have three or more children. The cost of a double mini session (two sessions) is $350 for the weekend session.

What is the cost of a mini session?
The cost of a weekend twenty minute mini session is $150, or you may book a double session for $250. The session fee is due at the time of booking.

How do I sign up for a mini session?

What if it rains or the weather is bad on the day of our mini session?
In case of inclement weather, mini photo sessions will be held on our scheduled rain date. If you have any questions about weather, please call us at 817.705.8341.

Can I get a map to the mini session?
We will send you a Mapquest from your home to the location of the mini session; or go to the "Maps to locations" in the top right part of this webpage.

PREPARING FOR THE SHOOT - TIPS

What to wear?
Select clothing that’s poppy, vibrant and fun! Jewel-toned colors are complimentary on every complexion and look beautiful in photographs. Choose colors that are deep, rich and intense like burgundy, eggplant, teal, rust, magenta and olive. Try pairing these colors with neutrals like charcoal gray, chocolate brown and army green. Avoid black and white as they do not photograph well.

Avoid dressing the family in matching “uniforms”. Coordinated looks for families create a much more pleasing photograph. Try choosing a unifying color mixed with the neutrals listed above in various ways to mix things up but still give your family continuity.

Use patterns, textures and layers to add visual interest. Textured fabrics, such as denim, cable knits, linen, and corduroy, photograph beautifully. Layers can be added and removed to create different looks in minimal time.

When it comes to jeans, opt for the darkest indigo wash. These tend to be the most flattering and least dated. Also avoid contrasting colors, like adults in navy blue shirts and kids in light blue.

Most importantly, we want everyone to be casual and comfortable in their attire. Make sure each member of the family tries on their outfit before the day of the shoot. Clothing that is too big will appear baggy and sloppy in photos. Clothing that is undersized will bunch or gape. Everyone should be in clothes that feel and look good on the day of the shoot.

AFTER THE SHOOT
How do I view and purchase my photos?
About a week or two after your photo session, you will receive an email notifying you that your images are ready to be viewed. A link will be provided which will enable you to view and purchase your images online. If you prefer, you may place your order via email or phone.

How many images will I get to choose from?
Generally there will be 20 to 40 images per twenty minute mini session. Numbers may vary as each session is different. Please keep in mind that we post only the best images in an effort to make your selections easier.

Can I use an image from our mini session for a holiday card?
Absolutely, you may order loose prints which can be inserted into photo cards or choose a press-printed folded card option where the image is printed directly onto a heavy stock. These cards also allow for a small image on the back of the card, which adds interest and personality.

Having the amazing opportunity to be at this home ( water birth ) totally rocked my world!! I had my son's birth captured just over 6 months ago and since then, I've had an itch to try out birth photography- Let me say this: I totally LOVE it!!!

Abram Charles was born on Sept 3 at 1:26 am ( just over 2 weeks late- poor mama )
he was 8 pounds, 12 ounces and 21 1/2 inches of perfection. His momma was amazing and she had a whole team of supportive family members there to offer support and watch this little man make his entrance!

Mr. Baby, you sure are loved! I can not thank you guys enough for letting me document your amazing home birth.
